Penny Gold has retired teacher after completing her 20 years in the school. She started to play a game with her students and devoted her right years of 20-year teaching career in making a huge collection of Converse shoes at home. It was became a habit for her to buy a brand new pair of sneakers, Converse Chuck Taylor All stars, and then she would wear a completely different pair of shoes everyday when going to the school while the task of her students was to catch her wearing the same sneakers twice. This sounds really interesting. The kids would use laptops or iPads for writing the journal about their teacher and the headline of majority of journals was “Catch me wearing the same ones”. Sometimes, Penny’s students would joke that they had caught her wearing the same pair but she knew that they were just fooling around with her since she always had a different pair on.
Penny’s former students have many stories of same kind to share about their favorite teacher as that of her obsession with the brand new Converse sneakers; if we talk about today’s statistics her pairs have reached to 733, which is undoubtedly huge to mention. Penny, a courageous 63-year old sneakers love, is expected to enter in the records of Guinness Book of World Records with such a colossal collection of sneakers with her. She seemed to be very happy with this publicity and was supported from her family members, friends, and former students on Thursday. She would keep all her pairs in the walk-in closet of her home where were later packed in creates of 24 into a U-Haul to be given on the rent by her husband. The photographs were taken in pairs of 24. All shoes were used for multipurpose- few were sent to Jewish Academy of Orlando In mainland, Fla.; this is the same place where she taught for almost twenty years. For the validity of the information and as the verification process of the Guinness Book of World Records all community members are enlisted that are going to witness to the record thereby providing proofs for its authenticity. However, this part of public showing is crucial for the record but there is still available an alternative that’s if a staff member from the Guinness comes to the place personally to verify the information, but this procedure would cost Gold between $8,000- $1000 or possibly more.
Surprisingly, seven people visited her closet to officially count the sneakers and then they made tally sheets for the Guinness. Handwritten notes were made by all seven members and finally the count came up with 733 pairs.
It can take up to twelve weeks or more for the claim to be approved for the Guinness Books Of World Records, they have received the claims but they need to check on statements given by the witnesses as well as photos to verify each pair is Converse with different design.
Gold said that I was crazy and so much fun for her; students took photographs of the sneakers for fun. At one point the family of Gold thought that she was crazy but now they love her for doing that- collecting the pairs and now they are supporting her by all possible means.
